Assistant Manager, Edinburgh Crisis Centre

Our ‘Inspiring Edinburgh Award’ is now hanging in the hallway of the Edinburgh Crisis Centre along with our two previous awards.  Nicky our garden volunteer collected it from City Chambers on Wednesday night.

I want to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers who have all brought so much to our centre. Obviously the last year as brought everyone their own challenges. So for our volunteers to have continued in their own jobs or study, worked around Covid restrictions and anxieties, and still continue to donate their time to us is just amazing. Thank You!!😊

We have all seen the fantastic benefits over the last four or five years of having volunteers join the team. Our helpline volunteers have helped ease the pressure of busy shifts and have been brilliant. The garden looks fantastic and was maintained right through lockdown. Although the Art Group and Writing Group are currently not running, they have previously triggered interest in Uni’s and Colleges which led to fundraising events and it will be great to get them back up and running once guidance allows. We are all eager to get Katye and therapet Brodie back to once Canine Concern give the go ahead for their volunteers to return.

It really was inspiring to hear some of the stories on Wednesday night and how many people donate so much time to help others. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers.

Those who cannot return to the centre just now are all eager to get back. So perhaps over the next few months, or once we get this winter out of the way and we are further away from Covid we can start to welcome everyone back to our great wee team.
